A Period of Impact and Unity: President Ebenezer Wepari Reflects on Transformative Leadership of Ghanaian Community in Russia

MOSCOW, RUSSIA – November 6, 2025 – Over the past two years since my election on April 16, 2023, as the very first elected President of the Association of Compatriots “Ghanaian Community” in Russia, I am filled with profound gratitude and pride in what we, as a united diaspora, have achieved. Officially registered at the Ministry of Justice in Moscow and recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra, our community has experienced a period of unprecedented growth, solidarity, and structured development.

My mandate has been guided by a singular vision: to foster a truly sustainable, supportive, and well-governed home away from home for every Ghanaian living across the vast Russian Federation. This commitment has driven every initiative and policy we have implemented.

Building a Foundation of Cohesion and Good Governance

From the outset, I initiated a holistic approach to bring all Ghanaians in the federation under one community platform. This was a crucial step towards dismantling geographical barriers and forging a stronger sense of national identity abroad. To solidify our governance, I promptly created the Cabinet and introduced the revered Council of Elders, institutions that now serve as the bedrock of our decision-making and wisdom.

A core pillar of my presidency has been the enhancement of our operational framework. I championed a constitutional amendment to modernize our guiding principles and have rigorously enforced on rules and regulations across the community. This commitment to order has extended to instilling discipline among vendors and service providers, ensuring fair practices and high standards for all members. Furthermore, I have overseen the implementation of vital administrative processes, including anticipating the monthly reporting system at the tax office in Moscow, underscoring our commitment to transparency and legal compliance.

A President on the Ground: Connecting with Every Compatriot

My belief in leadership through direct engagement has propelled me on an extensive journey across the Russian Federation. I have personally travelled to numerous cities, including Kazan, Nizhniy Novgorod, Ryazan, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kaliningrad, Tula, Sergev Pasad, Vladimir, Zelenograd, Zelenogorsk, Anapa, Crimea, Sevastopol, Simferopol, Feodosia, Irkutsk, Murmansk, Vyborg, Sortavala, Pereslavl, Yaraslovl, Ivanovo, and Belarus, among others.

These visits were not merely symbolic. They were vital opportunities to connect directly with Ghanaians in diverse regions, to listen to their concerns, celebrate their successes, and reinforce the message that our community's strength lies in our collective unity, no matter the distance.

Championing Welfare, Justice, and Dignity

The welfare and protection of our members have been paramount. I have been a tireless advocate for those facing adversity, personally visiting various immigration camps to intercede on behalf of Ghanaian citizens and, indeed, other African nationals. My direct involvement has led to interventions in dozens of police arrests, providing crucial support and guidance in critical moments.

In times of profound sorrow, our community has demonstrated immense compassion. I have overseen the sensitive and often complex process of repatriation of deceased citizens of Ghana and ailing members, ensuring that our departed receive dignified farewells and our ill receive necessary care, whether here or back home.

Crucially, I have consistently ensured discipline among members generally and insisted on rules, procedures, and regulations. This unwavering stance on order and respect is fundamental to our harmonious coexistence and our reputation within Russia.

A Holistic Approach to Community Development

Beyond these direct interventions, our community has flourished through dedicated departmental efforts. As you may recall from previous articles, our Health and Welfare Department continues to provide essential support, while the Sports and Entertainment Department fosters camaraderie and cultural pride. The notable achievements of our General Secretaries underscore the diligent work that underpins all our programs and activities. These are collective successes, reflecting the comprehensive and multi-faceted approach we have taken to community development.

A Future Built on Selflessness and Determination

My tenure as President has been characterized by unwavering selflessness, sheer determination, and an enduring commitment to the well-being and sustainability of the Ghanaian Community in Russia. Every decision, every journey, and every challenge met has been driven by the singular purpose of fostering a stronger, more united, and respected diaspora.

I am immensely proud of the resilience and spirit demonstrated by our members. Together, we have built robust structures, extended our reach, advocated for justice, and cultivated a culture of responsibility and mutual support. I call upon each of you to continue to embrace our shared vision and contribute actively to the vibrant future we are collectively building.
