YEREVAN, ARMENIA – History was made this past Saturday, June 20, 2026, as the city of Yerevan hosted its very first African football tournament. The event brought together members of the African diaspora for a day of spirited competition, sportsmanship, and cultural celebration.

The President of the Ghanaian Community in Armenia, Ms. Frances was in attendance, leading a vibrant group of Ghanaian compatriots to cheer on their national representatives. The tournament showcased the growing sense of community among African nationals living in Armenia, turning the football pitch into a focal point for unity and pride.

Tournament Highlights
The competition kicked off with a high-energy match between Ghana and Sierra Leone. Despite a strong effort from the Ghanaian side, Sierra Leone secured a 2-1 victory. Following this, Nigeria and Cameroon faced off in a tense encounter. The match remained deadlocked through regulation time, eventually moving to a dramatic penalty shootout, where Nigeria edged out Cameroon with a 3-2 victory.

While a brief disagreement flared between the Nigerian and Cameroonian teams, it was quickly de-escalated through the professional intervention of the coaching staff, ensuring the tournament maintained its spirit of friendly competition.

Final Standings and Results
In the battle for third place, Cameroon proved clinical, defeating Ghana 3-2 to claim the bronze position. The championship final saw a thrilling rematch of talent, as Nigeria faced off against Sierra Leone. After a hard-fought battle, Nigeria clinched the title through a decisive 3-2 penalty victory.

1st Place: Nigeria
2nd Place: Sierra Leone
3rd Place: Cameroon
4th Place: Ghana
